Development Charges

Development charges are the fees levied on residential and non-residential properties within the City of Ottawa. These charges help the City finance a portion of the cost associated with new infrastructure and municipal service expansion needed to support growth. The fees are paid by property owners who are seeking a building permit to develop their properties.

The current DC By-law was approved by City Council on June 24, 2009. Under the By-law, the City’s residential and non-residential development charges (excluding changes due to annual indexing) are as follows:

Single-detached residential properties (charges will be indexed 2.9% on August 1, 2010)
