Ward 7 BayCouncillor Alex Cullen – Experience in our CommunityAlex Cullen, Councillor for Bay Ward in Ottawa’s west end since 2001, is Chair of the City’s Transit Committee and a member of the City’s Community & Protective Services Committee, and Transportation Committee. He also serves on the Boards of Ottawa Community Housing (the City’s social housing agency), Hydro Ottawa Ltd. (the City’s electricity distributor), the Ottawa Campsite Authority, and the Mississippi-Rideau Source Protection Committee. Alex Cullen is also active in the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), serving on AMO’s Public Health Liaison Committee. Alex Cullen is the past Executive Director of the Council on Aging (1999-2000), a voluntary non-profit United Way agency dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all seniors in Ottawa. Alex Cullen’s previous political experience includes serving as M.P.P. for Ottawa West (1997-99), member of Ottawa-Carleton’s Regional Council (1991-97), member of Ottawa City Council (1991-94), and Trustee on the Ottawa Board of Education (1982-88). Alex Cullen’s community experience is extensive. Currently he is a Patron of Languages of Life, a community agency providing translation services. He has served on the Board of Directors of:
Alex Cullen was educated in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. He holds a B.A. (Hons.) and an M.A. in Economics from York University. He is 58 years old, the father of 3 adult children, and married to Theresa Kavanagh. He is an avid cross-country skier, runner and cyclist. He is the winner of the Rudy Award in 2008 (for completing the Winter Triathlon, the Gatineau Loppet, the Ottawa Marathon, the Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour, and the Canadian Iron Distance Triathlon).
