Submitting Your Application
Applications for a building permit must include:
- Completed application form
- Plans, drawings and specifications
- Fee payment (see fee calculation)
Application Form
Building Permit applications must be submitted on the new provincial Application Form. Application Forms are also available at Client Service Centres located throughout the City.
We recommend that you take the time required to read and carefully complete the application form and schedules. It is important that you ensure that your applications are complete, accurate and signed.
Plans, drawings and specifications
Your application form must be accompanied by the documents noted in Schedule "C" of the Building By-Law including:
- Two sets of building plans (floor plans, elevations and cross-sections and details, roof truss drawings, as appropriate)
- Two copies of your property survey or site plan
Fee payment
The fees are calculated by the Building Official or Technical Support staff at the counter and are based on the fee schedule approved by the latest Building By-Law. The fee is based on the approved rate calculated against the value of the proposed construction.
The building permit fee may be paid by cash, Interac Direct Payment or cheque payable to "City of Ottawa". (Cheques need not be certified).
