The Ontario Building Code Act requires that, as a homeowner, you obtain a building permit prior to commencing construction. It is unlawful to start construction or demolition before you get a permit.

The following information outlines how to prepare for and apply for a building permit for small residential projects such as; sun decks, additions, basement renovations, and accessory buildings (sheds, garages).
