Ottawa's award-winning Transitway forms the backbone of OC Transpo's current commuter system. Its already strong East-West connections are being improved with several new projects: Transitway connections will be improved with the construction of a new transit station at Jeanne d'Arc Boulevard by 2009. This will provide connections for travelers to and from downtown, Gatineau, Nepean and Kanata.
In 2007, construction will begin on the West Transitway Extension from Bayshore to Pinecrest. Planning is also underway for further Transitway extensions to Kanata, including connecting to Scotiabank Place.
A new Eagleson Road transit station will be built in 2009, to complement the recently completed Terry Fox Station and Park-and-Ride lot.
